Pakistani Politics, Public, and the Newly Elected U.S. President

If we look at the relationship between the United States and Pakistan in a historical context, there have been many ups and downs from the beginning to the present. At times, these relations have been extremely pleasant, while at other times, they have been very tense. However, regardless of the nature of these relations, it cannot be denied that whatever happened in the U.S.—whether it was a crisis, an earthquake, a flood, sports and cultural festivals, or elections—the Pakistani public has always shown genuine interest. A living example of this is the current U.S. presidential elections.

Just as the American people

Just as the American people had high expectations and keen interest in the U.S. presidential elections, Pakistani politicians and the general public were also deeply invested in these elections. Just as Americans were eagerly awaiting the election results, so were the Pakistanis, anxiously waiting to see who would gain the upper hand and emerge victorious. Finally, the U.S. presidential election process concluded with former President Donald Trump gaining the upper hand and winning, while his opponent Kamala Harris faced defeat. However, it remains to be seen how the new U.S. president’s policies will impact Pakistan. The current Democratic administration has assisted Pakistan in several matters, including the IMF, and it is hoped that the new Republican administration will continue this cooperation.Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory, expressing a commitment to working together and hoping that the new U.S. administration will prioritize peace and help resolve global conflicts. The U.S. elections have demonstrated that America is still not in tune with contemporary needs, as it remains unwilling to accept female leadership even in the 21st century. As far as the election results are concerned, for many, they were unexpected, while for others, they were exactly as anticipated. Trump’s historic victory in the U.S. elections is being widely discussed in Pakistan, just as in various other parts of the world. Meanwhile, American citizens are seen celebrating the victory, with hopes that the newly elected president will play a role in restoring global peace and strengthening the American economy. After the election results, the Pakistani public is optimistic about the U.S.’s stance on the Gaza conflict and the possible role of Donald Trump in securing Imran Khan’s release. Following the results of the American elections, many in the country believe that the new political situation could present a challenging time for the Pakistani establishment. Social media users are actively expressing their opinions regarding their preference for both U.S. presidential candidates, with posts reflecting their support. Many from various sectors of society, including supporters of Kamala Harris, were hopeful, but contrary to this, opponents of female leadership, as well as businessmen, technocrats, government officials, doctors, and students, were mostly in favor of Trump. This is seemingly due to the belief that he will end global conflicts, although the reality appears to be quite the opposite.

The newly elected U.S. president’s

president’s stance on both new and old immigrants is particularly significant. At this time, the U.S. economy is struggling due to unemployment, and the dollar’s value is weakening worldwide. In this context, the decision of the American public aligns with the prevailing circumstances, and they deserve to be congratulated for it. As far as the aftermath of the American elections is concerned, a top trend on social media in Pakistan is celebrating Donald Trump’s victory, with many tweets expressing hope for his potential role in Imran Khan’s release. It is naive to believe that the U.S. elections will lead to a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy or that the U.S. will directly influence various countries. The U.S. establishment is far more powerful than the establishments of the Third World, and the presidents elected are and will remain a necessity for America. As for any expectations regarding Trump’s stance on Imran Khan or potential decisions against the Pakistani establishment, it is likely to be a misguided belief, as American strategists prioritize relations with states over individuals. Regarding peace in the Middle East, it is the height of wishful thinking, especially since Trump has already recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, which could further highlight the concept of Greater Israel. Furthermore, it can be expected that the U.S. will now operate through its extremist organizations rather than direct intervention, leading to a weaker war industry and stronger global financial institutions, as the most profitable business in the world right now is usury, where profit is guaranteed with no risk of loss. The current situation demands that after the apparent victory of an anti-Pakistan president in the American elections, Pakistan finds itself at a crossroads, similar to the time of its founding. At that time, instead of visiting Russia, Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan went to the United States, which has since caused Pakistan to be mired in issues. After the current American elections, the Pakistani establishment once again has the opportunity to decide the direction in which it wants to move. If rejecting all global, particularly American, pressure not to conduct nuclear tests was a decision, then this could mark the beginning of a new journey for Pakistan. In this scenario, the country’s think tanks should carefully analyze the past and present conditions and decide the path forward.
